WHAT IS E.F.T.?
Tapping is a gentle, self-help technique. By calming the nervous system, Tapping can help you find the relief that you are seeking for mind or body.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After focusing on a troubling thought or physical sensation, Tapping on predetermined meridian points* serves to calm the amygdala and weaken or eliminate the mind’s automatic response to the issue that has been bothering you.
*Meridian points are also used in Chinese Acupuncture.

WHY IS TAPPING SO POWERFUL?
Tapping calms the mind and this often leads people to perceive a physical condition or life circumstance in its true dimension, i.e. in a way that is no longer so discomforting or overwhelming. Though E.F.T. Tapping does not change reality (of course), the emotion, thought or physical sensation that you are Tapping for will—when successful—no longer affect you to the same extent (or, perhaps, not at all) because you are now able to perceive it free from psychogenic “baggage”. A common result of this self-help modality is a profound sense of self-agency that, in turn, gives you the freedom to act and to be, namely by enabling you to take on new perspectives, arrive at new conclusions, find new solutions to old problems, and even make spontaneous decisions.
INTELLECTUALIZING VS. TRUE ACCEPTANCE
Tapping can be used for problems ranging from physical discomfort to cognitive-emotional* issues. When “Tapping on” the latter, complete relief can be achieved only if one gains ‘true acceptance’ of the issue—as opposed to a purely intellectual understanding of the problem. This type of acceptance happens when the mind lets go of all resistance to what is, i.e. to any and all pretense that a situation be different from what it actually is or was. Achieving ‘true acceptance’ by simply talking about what is bothering you, is rare. Achieving it through E.F.T. Tapping is relatively commonplace. Carl Rogers once said, “the curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change,” and the same can be said of all external life circumstances as well: when we completely accept what is, our life can change (dramatically) because our perspective has also changed (dramatically).
*It should be noted here that cognitive-emotional issues are often a contributing factor when physical discomfort in the body does not subside.
